Working from Abroad: Balancing Work and Travel

Some of you might have already known that at elvah, we have the possibility to work from abroad. That means you can work remotely while staying in a different location, combining professional responsibilities with a change of scenery. This year I took advantage of it and have spent 2 months on the beautiful island of Gran Canaria: Other colleagues have made use of the opportunity to work from abroad as well. Together with Barbara, Dorian, Kai and Nils, we took a closer look at the concept. We explored the key advantages and challenges of working remotely from a new location and gathered valuable insights on what to consider if you're planning your own working from abroad trip:

Advantages 🌍☀️One of the biggest perks of working from abroad is the ability to work from places with better weather, providing a refreshing change from routine work environments. Additionally, it presents an opportunity to learn a new language or start a new hobby like surfing for example:It also encourages the development of new routines, which can improve productivity and overall well-being. Spending your free time in an inspiring place can clear your mind and help you focus better at work. Plus, it gives you the chance to explore new places and even test out where you might want to live in the future. How a typical day looked like for me

After wrapping up work, I usually headed straight to the beach to unwind, soaking up the sun and enjoying the sound of the waves 🌊. On other days, I took surf classes, trying to improve my take off. Sometimes with more success, sometimes with more wipeouts! 😅There’s a huge digital nomad community in Las Palmas which makes it very easy to connect to like-minded people. Co-working spaces regularly organized events like group hikes in the mountains, beach volleyball matches at sunset, or cozy cooking nights where we shared dishes from around the world. It was the ideal mix of work, adventure, and connection!
